THE GROSVENOR, a popular pub and live music venue in Stockwell, will be closing down next month.
Property developers Golfrate have now applied to convert part of the building on Sidney Street into private flats.
John Dyson, landlord of the pub for last nine years, said he has been pushed out of the area because of gentrification, with a separate block of up-market flats already being built opposite the pub.
“The pub won’t be able to compete anymore. The new locals won’t want noise and live music so near to their flats,” he said.
The Grosvenor will be holding a series of farewell events until it closes its’ doors in August.
“We’ve got a few more weeks of partying yet,” said John.
“There’s a great deal of sadness for me and the community that we’re closing.
“It’s been an interesting nine years with lots of ups and downs.
“We’ve made a massive dent in the community and helped a lot of local bands.”
John would like to thank all of the customers who have been loyal to the Grosvenor over the last nine years.
