Women love big romantic gestures – which could explain why a Streatham gardener who stood in Waterloo train station brandishing a placard requesting a ‘hot brunette’ to date has been flooded with emails from potential suitors, writes Sarah Biddlecombe…

Gerald Abrahams, a 39 year old lovelorn landscape gardener, said he was “shocked” to receive almost 400 emails after his brazen attempt to find the one. He started his quest in Waterloo station on 7 January but was promptly removed by security guards, so continued to trawl the streets of the capital in the pouring rain with the homemade placard which requested a “hot brunette” who must “like dogs and landscapers”.
