Moving from its former residence at Battersea Power Station, the Freeze festival is taking over Clapham this year, with the Common all set for snow. Now in its sixth year, the winter sports festival and Apres ski party will combine music, sports and Alpine cuisine and is expected to draw crowds of over 30,000.
Electronic duo AlunaGeorge is taking over the main stage alongside 19-year-old super producer Madeon, one of the UK’s best producers DJ Fresh, and the Cuban Brothers. Chase and Status are returning to the Common, following their stint at this year’s South West Four festival.
The snow sporting elite will be joining in the fun with the world’s best snowboarders and skiers battling it out in the Hail the Rail challenge; British stars skier Julian Ball and snowboarder Jamie Nicholls are the first confirmed to take part.
For those who prefer the Apres to the ski there’ll be a range of alpine bars, including a Bavarian Haus where staff will be kitted out in lederhosen, the Krazy Kangaroo (no doubt a nod to Clapham’s thriving Aussie expat community) the Metro Lodge and the Ibiza Rocks the Snow bar, all dishing up fondue, raclette, roasted chestnuts, crepes, bratwurst, mulled wine, cider and plenty more.
The Freeze festival is at Clapham Common, Windmill Drive, SW4 9DE, from November 27-December 1. Admission: £8 for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. £32 for Saturday. Season passes from £54. http://www.freezefestival.com
