The Dulwich Picture Gallery and the Horniman Museum are among the finalists nominated for the prestigious Art Fund Prize for Museum of the Year 2013.
As the largest UK arts prize, it awards the winner £100,000 and highlights galleries and museums demonstrating innovation and creativity.
Director of Dulwich Picture Gallery, which is renowned for painters such as Rembrandt and Gainsborough, Ian Dejardin said: “Being nominated for the Art Fund Museum of the Year, with all that that implies in terms of recognition by our peers, means a great deal.”
The Horniman houses collections on natural history and anthropology alongside gardens and an aquarium; its Chief Executive Janet Vitmayer said staff were delighted to have been
“We can now offer an extraordinary and unified view of the world to inspire current and future generations,” Ms Vitmayer said.
The winner will be announced at the V&A award ceremony on 4 June.
