BY LAURA BURGOINE

Unassuming from the outside, the dimly lit lounge that is SO.UK is akin to a city cocktail bar but with a distinctive Clapham flavour and a buzzing local presence.

The drinks
The cocktails are highly impressive and mixed by very efficient, professional bartenders who also pour a bit of personality in there. In the way of classic cocktails the French martinis (£8) are a must. The honey berry; a vodka, fresh berry, and you guessed it honey, infusion served over ice is delicately refreshing while the apple pie martini in all its glorious sweetness is the ideal tipple to get your night started.
If you’re finishing with liquid dessert, go for the black forest gateau; chocolate liqueur, Kahlua, cherry brandy (£8).

The Food
Asian inspired dishes comprise the food menu here, and while a martini and a stir-fry isn’t an obvious pairing, it does work. The filo wrapped mango prawn with sweet chilli sauce (£3.95), steamed prawn dumplings (£4.25), and Moroccan kofta with tzatziki (£3.95) are ideal canapés but if you’re looking for something more substantial the tiger prawn Pad Thai noodles (£7.25) or the chicken stir fry (£5.95) are healthy and tasty without being too a heavy meal.

The Space
Burning incense, candles, ornate lampshades and dark leather lounges create a space that is cosy but still modern and chic. The crowd is a bit Topshop / Topman but remember you are in Clapham. On a recent Saturday night it was busy from 10pm onwards but service was still very efficient; it’s definitely a glass half-full kind of place.
